If you are planning on leaving the UAE with unpaid debts or bank loans, there are some legal things you must know before you pack your bags and book your ticket.

This is a very common question that we’ve been hearing a lot, “Can I leave UAE with unpaid debts and will I be stopped in the airport?”

The fact that you are aware of your debt and intentionally leaving unpaid bank loans and debts, you could be potentially stopped at the airport. However, an unlikely occurrence, but not impossible.

What can be done to avoid this? It is very simple – to avoid being stopped at the airport for unpaid debt, make sure your repayments are up to date and not missed payments or to make it short – settle your unpaid bills, debts or bank loans before leaving.

And yes, you could be stopped at the airport once your bank filed a case against you (If you’ve failed to pay 3 consecutive installments or 6 non-consecutive payments of the monthly installments without the approval of the bank, then you will be in trouble).

The bank where you owed money/debt may pursue a legal case, use a security check, and place a travel ban, preventing you from leaving the UAE.

And if you really need to leave UAE having missed a lot of payment dues due to non-employment or financial struggles, we advise you to discuss it with your bank and get an agreement regarding a payment plan or schedule of payments with the guarantee that you will eventually complete it.
